Types of Dysmenorrhea
- Primary Dysmenorrhea:

- Symptoms: Cramping pain in the lower abdomen, which may radiate to the lower back and thighs. Pain is usually accompanied by nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and general fatigue.
- Cause: Related to the production of prostaglandins (hormone-like substances) that cause the uterine muscles to contract.
- Secondary Dysmenorrhea:
- Description: This type of pain is related to an underlying pelvic condition, such as endometriosis, fibroids, or pelvic inflammatory disease (PID).
- Symptoms: Similar to primary dysmenorrhea but often starts earlier in the menstrual cycle and lasts longer.
- Cause: Due to an underlying condition affecting the reproductive organs.
